One Last Micro Outing Along the South Dorset Ridgeway (before the weather caved in)

Slow Cycling from Worth Matravers to Dorchester...

Some softly fading memories of one last micro-outing, before I flew the coop and headed east… and then autumn turned up and now, as I write, it’s pouring and the days are shortening…

To our standard issue local campout, we added a blustery ride to Dorchester, tracing the South Dorset Ridgeway, and backlanes and lumpy horse tracks too. Coffee and intense route debate were the order of the day, meaning progress was leisurely and vibes were heavenly.

This said, I think Vish and I might have tried Ben’s patience with the profuseness of our image taking, but once we’d loaded yet more caffeine into his system and ours too, all was well and a fun time was had by all!

Worth Matravers to Swyre Head to Kimmeridge, with benches aplenty for bike leaning, and a Woodhenge too.

Ben, his Crust Romanceur, and the very tightest of shorts.

Morning came, and with it the first of several Aeropresses of the day…

Slow cycling. A day of bridleways, greenways, byways, and back lanes. Jack Thurston would approve.

The South Dorset Ridgeway.

Praise be to friends who like pastries and pushing bikes.

Until the next one, my Purbeck Pals!

The Route

Here’s our route between Worth Matravers and Dorchester. It was almost the same as the one Alex and I rode last year (see links below), which happens to be very similar to a new-to-me route by Cycling UK called the Dorset 330 Bikepacking Challenge. I think Alex and I worked in a little more in the way of bridleways.

We hopped on the train from Dorchester, as darkened skies loomed overhead, and our legs were satisfied with the day’s efforts!

That’s it for now! Thanks for reading. Any questions, fire away!
