If you’re one of the rare human beings who reads this blog… you’ll know that it’s been unbearably hot and dry for much of the last month here in Oaxaca. One heat wave has tag teamed another, just at a time we’ve all been waiting for the rainy season to make its belated appearance this year, and bring some oft requested moisture to the mountains and valleys. Finally though, there’s a relatively cool breeze tempering the air, at least it felt that way yesterday afternoon.
It’s been a while since I’ve taken Huesos out in the Farfarer trailer and my beloved Jones Spaceframe. And what a joy it is to be riding it again! Mostly, we’ve been out of bed with the rising sun and trail riding before the day’s heat has had a chance to crescendo, which means I’m rolling on my hardtail and Huesos is bounding straight out of the front door on pure paw power alone.
But Emma’s back now so we’re shaking it up! The ‘Microondas Loop’ at golden hour has long been a favourite for the three of us. It’s a classic Oaxaqueño mix of broken pavement, loose dirt, rutted trails, rowdy two-track, dog-dodging, cobble gobbling, and village vibes, and it even has a barebones outdoor gym along the way, for a few sunset pull ups.
All in all, this short ride is lovely way to escape the house and its perma-fan for a couple of hours before dark, and get the legs turning, the biceps pumping, and hearts (canine and human alike) soaring!
That’s it for now. Any questions, fire away!
